This is the wood that I will be using to make the ribs and neck.
Next, I drew all the reference lines I would need on the wood.
After that, I traced around the template on a piece of wood. I then bolted another piece of wood to the first one, so that they were exactly 30 mm. thick.
Next, I traced the pattern onto some cardboard and cut it out. This will be my template.

The first step is to copy the pattern so that it is the right size. Al went to the copy store with us, and helped us get it to the right dimensions. I cut the pattern out very carefully.
Watch as I make a viola, step by step. I'm going to be making a copy of a Laurentius Storioni, originally made in 1795. It will have flowers inlaid near the points, and will finish to be 16 in. long. I'm going to be making and using an inside mold to make the viola. I'm learning violin/viola making from Al Faruolo, along with my brother and sister.
